Principles of a Joint Attack

Whether you are in Korea (where I began studying Hapkido) or in Alamance County, North Carolina (where I am currently teaching) a fighter must use one or more of the following principles in order for a joint attack to work.

  1. Pressure points
  2. Use 2 way action
  3. Twist joint in a direction in which it is not designed to go.
  4. Confuse opponent
  5. Generate a base
  6. Use movement in your body to apply direction
  7. Change pressure on joint
  8. Stay with the opponent
  9. Use combinations
  10. Steal ki
  11. Use ki
